Teaching flag with social distance rules in place

The kids and teaching staff loved seeing each other again

The 2020 lockdown has impacted every aspect of what was normal life. Luckily I have a hobby which keeps me sane and happy. I have spent the last 14 years, since 2007, teaching dance to kids in the local community of Elland. The Anchormen, from Elland in Halifax, are a UK registered charity providing dance tuition. We learn a show routine, get dressed up, and then go to competitions all around the UK and in Europe, including Ireland and the Netherlands.

On Tuesday 2nd June 2020, the lockdown measures were changed allowing small groups to get together outside. After 12 weeks of not seeing everyone, it was a perfect opportunity for us all to get together in the local park, say hello, virtual hugs, and show the dance members some flag routines.

A very successful dance group

The Anchormen currently have 3 dance teams. In 2020, between January and March, just before the lockdown started, the 3 dance teams were undefeated in all their competitions. All 3 dance teams came first in their classes. This was an amazing achievement. We only needed to get to finals to find out if we could keep the winning run going. Then the lockdown started! Disappointing we were, but nothing we could have done to change anything.
